Centrifuge Baskets

The also referred to as a wire mesh basket or centrifuge basket – is a filtration component constructed from stainless steel woven wire mesh or wedge wire screen. The mesh or screen is formed into a cylindrical or conical shape and supported by a perforated plate or rod framework. The basket is installed inside a filter housing, strainer, or centrifuge, where it captures solid particles from the fluid stream while allowing clean liquid or gas to pass through. The basket is a serviceable component designed for repeated use – it can be removed, cleaned, and reinstalled multiple times. The construction provides high open area, good flow capacity, and effective particle retention.

The filtration precision of the basket is determined by the mesh size or slot opening. Woven wire mesh baskets are available in mesh sizes ranging from 1 to 400 mesh, providing filtration from 5 micrometers to 5000 micrometers. Wedge wire baskets offer slot openings from 0.025 mm to 3.0 mm, with tolerance held to ±0.03 to ±0.05 mm. The mesh or slot size is selected based on the particle size to be removed and the required flow rate. The V-shaped slot design in wedge wire baskets provides resistance to plugging, while the woven mesh design offers a wide range of filtration options for different applications.

The centrifuge baskets consists of the filtration media supported by a structural framework. For woven wire mesh baskets, the mesh is supported by a perforated plate or rod cage that prevents the mesh from deforming under pressure. For wedge wire baskets, the V-shaped profile wires are welded directly to support rods, creating a rigid, self-supporting structure. The framework can include support rings, stiffening ribs, and a lifting handle for easy removal. The basket is constructed from stainless steel materials that provide corrosion resistance and mechanical strength. The basket can be manufactured with a flanged top, rolled rim, or other end configurations to match the filter housing.
