Slotted Hole Screen Basket

A slotted hole screen basket – also referred to as a wedge wire filter basket – is a cylindrical or conical filtration component manufactured from V-shaped stainless steel profile wires. The profile wires are resistance-welded to a grid of support rods, forming a rigid, all-welded structure with continuous, uniform slots. This construction provides high mechanical strength, hardness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance. The basket is installed inside a filter housing or strainer body, where it captures solid particles from the fluid stream while allowing clean liquid to pass through the precision slots. The slotted design is particularly effective for applications requiring consistent filtration accuracy and resistance to plugging.

The V-shaped slot is the defining feature of this basket. The slot is narrow at the outside surface and progressively wider toward the inside. This geometry prevents particles from becoming wedged and stuck in the opening. When a particle enters the slot, it contacts the wire edge at only two points, which minimizes the risk of plugging. The slot can be cleaned effectively by backwashing or brushing because the wider internal opening allows trapped particles to be flushed away easily. Slot openings range from 0.025 mm to 3.0 mm, with common industrial applications using 0.1 to 1.0 mm. Slot tolerance can be held to ±0.03 to ±0.05 mm, ensuring consistent filtration performance across the entire basket surface.

The basket is constructed by welding V-shaped profile wires to longitudinal support rods at every intersection. The result is a rigid, one-piece structure that resists deformation under pressure differentials and mechanical stress. The support rods run vertically along the basket body, providing structural strength. For larger baskets or those operating under higher pressures, additional support rings are added around the circumference to prevent the basket from collapsing or bulging. Profile wire sizes commonly used include 0.75×1.5 mm, 1×2 mm, 1.5×3 mm, and 2×4 mm. The basket can be manufactured with a flanged top, rolled rim, lifting handle, or other end configurations to match the filter housing.
