Wedge Wire Filter Basket

It is a precision filtration component constructed from V-shaped stainless steel profile wires. The profile wires are wound around and resistance-welded to a cage of longitudinal support rods, forming a rigid, all-welded cylindrical or conical structure with continuous, uniform V-shaped slots. This basket is designed for installation inside filter housings, strainers, and vessels where it serves as the primary filtration element. The all-welded construction provides high structural strength, enabling the basket to withstand pressure differentials without deforming or failing. The V-shaped slot geometry ensures consistent filtration accuracy and resistance to plugging.

Wedge wire baskets provide superior media containment, preventing downstream migration of filter media, catalyst particles, or resin beads. The continuous V-shaped slots deliver high open area – typically between 15% and 60% – which translates to lower pressure drop across the basket compared to mesh or perforated designs. The open area allows for higher flow rates with less energy consumption. The basket also ensures proper distribution of process fluid across the filtration surface, which is particularly important in upflow and downflow process applications where uniform flow is critical for efficient operation. The combination of high open area and low pressure drop makes the wedge wire basket a preferred choice for applications where process efficiency is a key consideration.

The V-shaped slot design requires little maintenance. The slot is narrow on the outside and wider internally. When particles approach the slot, they contact the wire at only two points, which prevents them from becoming wedged. This design eliminates plugging and reduces the frequency of cleaning. When cleaning is required, the basket can be backwashed or brushed. The smooth surface and absence of dead zones make the basket easy to clean. The wedge wire basket has a longer service life than conventional filtration components, making it a cost-effective solution over the long term.
