Wedge Wire Mesh Filter Basket

A wedge wire mesh filter basket is a cylindrical or conical filtration component constructed from stainless steel wedge wire. The V-shaped profile wires are resistance-welded to a grid of support rods, creating a rigid, all-welded structure with continuous, uniform slots. The basket is installed inside a filter housing or strainer body, where it captures solid particles from the fluid stream while allowing clean liquid to pass through. The construction provides high strength, hardness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance. The basket is designed for repeated use – it can be removed, cleaned, and reinstalled multiple times without losing filtration performance.

It delivers consistent filtration performance because the slots are manufactured to tight tolerances. Slot openings range from 0.025 mm to 3.0 mm, with common industrial applications using 0.1 to 1.0 mm. Slot tolerance can be held to ±0.03 to ±0.05 mm, ensuring that every slot across the basket surface provides the same particle retention. The continuous slot design provides high open area – typically between 15% and 60% – which allows for good flow capacity while maintaining filtration accuracy. The V-shaped slot geometry prevents particles from wedging, reducing the frequency of cleaning and extending the service life of the basket.

The basket is constructed with V-shaped profile wires on the outside surface and a grid of support rods on the inside. The profile wires and support rods are welded at every intersection. The number and spacing of support rods determine the collapse strength of the basket. For high-pressure applications, support rods are spaced more closely. Profile wire sizes commonly used include 0.75×1.5 mm, 1×2 mm, 1.5×3 mm, and 2×4 mm. The basket can be manufactured with or without a lifting handle, depending on the installation and removal requirements. A flanged top or rolled rim provides the interface with the filter housing.
