Wedge Wire Water Distributor

It is a tank internal component used for the uniform distribution and collection of fluids in pressure vessels. It is constructed from V-shaped stainless steel profile wires resistance-welded to support rods, forming a rigid structure with continuous, uniform slots. The distributor typically consists of a central hub or header pipe with multiple lateral arms radiating outward-commonly referred to as "octopus" or "fishbone" style configurations. The lateral arms are covered with wedge wire screen, which allows fluid to pass through while preventing media migration. The assembly is designed to be installed at the top or bottom of a filter vessel, ion exchange column, or reactor, where it ensures even flow distribution across the entire cross-section of the vessel.

The wedge wire water distributor ensures that process fluid is evenly distributed across the media bed. This uniform distribution prevents channeling and short-circuiting-common problems that reduce filtration efficiency and media utilization. The V-shaped slot geometry is critical to this performance. The slots are narrow at the outside and wider internally, which prevents particles from becoming wedged and blocking the flow. The distributor maintains consistent flow characteristics over time with minimal maintenance. The slot opening typically ranges from 0.2 mm to 2.0 mm, providing effective media retention while maintaining good flow capacity. The high open area of the wedge wire design ensures low pressure drop across the distributor, which reduces pumping energy requirements.

The water distributor is manufactured from materials selected based on the fluid being processed and the operating conditions. Standard materials include stainless steel 304, 316, and 316L. For more demanding environments with corrosive media or elevated temperatures, we offer 2205 duplex stainless steel and other corrosion-resistant alloys. The distributor can be configured in various layouts to match the vessel design: radial (spoke) type, cross type, or hub-and-lateral type. The hub or header pipe diameter typically ranges from DN50 to DN300, with lateral branch pipes ranging from 32 mm to 133 mm in diameter. Connections between the hub and laterals can be threaded or flanged, and the overall distributor diameter is custom-sized to match the vessel-typically from 500 mm to 3000 mm or larger.
