How the Curved Wedge Wire Screen Works
The Curved Wedge Wire Screen – also referred to as a DSM screen or sieve bend – is a high-capacity static screening device used for solid-liquid separation. The screen panel is curved to a specified radius and installed in a frame at a designated angle. Feed slurry is introduced evenly across the top of the curved screening surface. As the material flows downward under gravity, the liquid and fine particles pass through the precision slots, while oversize solids are carried to the lower discharge end. The curved profile increases the effective screening area and promotes higher hydraulic capacity compared to flat panels. Flow can be directed in either direction, depending on the application requirements.
Anti-Clogging V-Shaped Slot Design
The V-shaped (or trapezoidal) profile wire is fundamental to the screen's performance. The slot is narrow on the feed side and wider on the discharge side. This geometry allows particles to make contact at only two points with the wire edges, significantly reducing the likelihood of particle entrapment. Other screen types such as woven mesh or perforated plate have openings where particles can wedge and become trapped, leading to plugging and regular maintenance problems. The Vee-Wire® slot design minimizes blinding and plugging. The screen's anti-clogging characteristic makes it suitable for continuous operation with minimal cleaning downtime. The surface is smooth and virtually free of burrs, which also helps prevent fiber hang-up.
Strong All-Welded Construction
The panel is constructed by resistance-welding V-shaped profile wires onto a grid of support rods. This all-welded, continuous-slot construction creates a rigid, one-piece assembly that maintains dimensional stability under load. The profile wires are welded at every intersection with the support rods, creating a strong structure capable of withstanding hydraulic and mechanical stress. This construction method provides a durable and reliable screening surface that resists deformation even in demanding applications. The smooth flat profile of the screening surface also provides a safe barrier for downstream equipment.
Material Options and Application Versatility
Curved wedge wire screens are manufactured in a variety of materials to suit different media types and operating conditions. Stainless steel 304, 316, and 316L are the most commonly used materials. For more demanding environments, we offer 2205 duplex steel, 904L, Hastelloy, or titanium. The curved design is used across many industries for dewatering, classification, and filtration. In coal preparation plants, it dewaters fine coal slurries. In mineral processing, it classifies ore pulps. In the food and starch industry, it separates fibers and washes solids. It is also effective in wastewater treatment applications such as primary clarification and sludge thickening.

All products are manufactured under the ISO9001:2008 quality management system. Each panel is custom-built to customer specifications. We support OEM/ODM services and can manufacture based on technical drawings or sample products. For custom-made curved screens, we will confirm the radius of curvature, arc angle, effective width, and slot opening before production begins. A sample can be provided for confirmation before mass production. Lead time typically ranges from 7 to 30 days depending on complexity.
Quality Control and Packaging
Raw materials are inspected upon receipt. In-process inspections are conducted during production to verify slot accuracy and weld integrity. A final 100% inspection is performed before packing and shipment. We accept third-party inspections and can provide inspection reports upon request. For international shipment, we use fumigation-free plywood cases. Each product is sprayed with anti-rust oil and wrapped with foam padding before boxing.
