A wedge wire mesh filter core is a cylindrical filtering component constructed from V-shaped profile wires. The wire is wound around and welded to a cage of longitudinal support rods. The result is a rigid, all-welded tube with continuous V-shaped slots. This construction offers higher mechanical strength compared to woven wire mesh cartridges. The core can withstand pressure differentials, external collapse forces, and vibration without deforming or failing. It is designed for installation into standard or custom filter housings and can be manufactured with a variety of end fittings to suit different equipment configurations.
Slot Geometry and Backwashing Performance
The V-shaped slot is the defining characteristic of this filter core. The slot is narrower at the outside surface and wider internally. This shape minimizes particle wedging. When a particle enters the slot, it touches the wire edge at only two points, so it cannot become tightly stuck. During backwashing, the wider internal opening allows the particle to release easily. This means the core can be cleaned and reused many times without losing filtration efficiency. The slot opening is manufactured to tight tolerances, typically ±0.03 to ±0.05 mm, ensuring consistent particle retention. Slot sizes range from 0.025 mm to 3.0 mm, with most industrial applications using openings between 0.1 and 1.0 mm. The continuous slot design also contributes to high open area, typically between 15% and 60%.
