Johnson Screen Tube

It is a cylindrical screening component manufactured from V-shaped stainless steel profile wires wound around and resistance-welded to longitudinal support rods. The result is a rigid, all-welded tube with continuous V-shaped slots across its entire surface. This screen cylinder can be used as a rotating drum in trommel or rotary screens, as a stationary element in gravity or pressurized screening equipment, or as a replacement cylinder in existing screening machines. The all-welded construction provides high mechanical strength, enabling the cylinder to withstand rotational forces, material impact, and differential pressure without deformation.

The V-shaped slot geometry provides two important performance advantages. First, the continuous slots create high open area, typically between 15% and 60%. This allows more liquid or fine particles to pass through compared to perforated plate or woven wire cylinders of similar dimensions. Second, the wedge-shaped slot is resistant to clogging. The slot narrows from the outside toward the inside. Particles that enter the slot touch the wire edge at only two points, so they cannot wedge tightly. This reduces the need for frequent cleaning and maintenance. Slot openings are manufactured from 0.025 mm to 3.0 mm, with most screening applications using 0.1 to 1.0 mm slots. Slot tolerance can be held to ±0.03 to ±0.05 mm, ensuring consistent screening results.

The cylinder is constructed with V-shaped profile wires on the outside surface and longitudinal support rods on the inside. The profile wires are welded to the support rods at every intersection. For high-pressure applications, the number of support rods is increased. The profile wire size, support rod spacing, and end connection type are all determined by the intended application. Material selection depends on the media being processed. Standard materials include stainless steel 304 and 316L. For corrosive or high-temperature applications, we offer 2205 duplex, 904L, Hastelloy, and titanium.
