Johnson Screen

It is the industry trade name for wedge wire or Vee-Wire® screening products. The name refers to the screening media made from V-shaped profile wires resistance-welded to a grid of support rods, forming a rigid, all-welded structure with continuous V-shaped slots. The products manufactured under this name include flat screen panels, cylindrical screen tubes, DSM curved screens, filter baskets, and pressure screen drums. They are used across multiple industries for solid-liquid separation, classification, dewatering, and filtration. The distinguishing feature that makes its products effective is the V-shaped slot geometry.

The slot in it is narrower at the outside surface and wider internally. When particles approach the slot, they contact the wire at two points. This two-point contact prevents the particle from becoming wedged and stuck in the opening. In other screen types, particles can become trapped in the slot, causing plugging and ongoing maintenance problems. This design also allows the screens to be backwashed effectively because the wider internal opening makes it easy to flush trapped particles away. Slot openings are manufactured from 0.025 mm to 3.0 mm, with tolerances held to ±0.03 to ±0.05 mm. Open area ranges from 15% to 55%, providing high hydraulic capacity.

The all-welded construction gives Johnson Screens high mechanical strength and dimensional stability. The V-shaped profile wires are welded to the support rods at every intersection. The result is a rigid, one-piece structure that resists deformation under load. This construction method is used for flat screen panels, which provide a smooth surface for fish diversion in water intakes. It is also used for cylindrical screen tubes that must withstand external collapse pressures in deep wells. For filter baskets, the all-welded structure maintains shape under pressure differentials. For pressure screen drums in pulp and paper applications, the construction ensures reliable operation under continuous operation.
