What Is a Wedge Wire Filter Cartridge
A wedge wire filter cartridge is a cylindrical filtration component manufactured from V-shaped stainless steel profile wires wound around and resistance-welded to a cage of longitudinal support rods. The result is a rigid, self-supporting cylinder with continuous V-shaped slots across its entire surface. This all-welded construction provides exceptional strength, enabling the cartridge to handle high differential pressures, external collapse loads, and internal burst pressures without deformation. The cartridge is designed to be installed into a filter housing and can be manufactured with various end fittings to match different equipment configurations.
Slot Design and Filtration Precision
The V-shaped slot geometry distinguishes the wedge wire cartridge from conventional filter media. The slot is narrow on the outside and progressively wider toward the inside. This shape allows particles to pass through the surface without becoming lodged. When a particle becomes trapped, it contacts the wire edge at only two points, reducing friction and making it easier to dislodge during backwashing. A cartridge with a 0.1 mm slot opening effectively captures particles of that size while maintaining good flow capacity. Slot tolerance can be held to ±0.03 to ±0.05 mm, ensuring consistent filtration performance. The combination of uniform slots, high open area, and anti-clogging geometry means the cartridge maintains its flow rate longer than woven mesh or perforated tube alternatives.
Construction and Material Options
The cartridge consists of three main components: the V-shaped profile wire that forms the filtration surface, the longitudinal support rods that provide structural strength, and the end fittings that connect to the filter housing. The profile wires and support rods are welded at every intersection, creating a single rigid assembly. Standard profile wire sizes include 0.75×1.5 mm, 1×2 mm, 1.5×3 mm, and 2×4 mm. For applications involving high pressure or significant vibration, the support rods are spaced more closely. Material selection depends on the fluid being filtered. We offer stainless steel 304 and 316L, 2205 duplex, 904L, Hastelloy C276, and titanium.

For export, each cartridge is individually wrapped with rust-preventive paper and padded with foam before being packed in fumigation-free plywood cases.
