What Is a Wedge Wire Filter Element

 

It is a precision-engineered cylindrical or flat filtering component manufactured from stainless steel V-shaped profile wires. The profile wires are resistance-welded onto a grid of support rods, creating a rigid structure with continuous, uniform slots. This all-welded construction gives the filter element high mechanical strength, enabling it to withstand differential pressure without deformation or failure. The element can be manufactured as a cylindrical tube, a flat panel, a curved DSM screen, or a basket, depending on the intended application and equipment configuration.

Precision Filtration and Anti-Clogging Performance

 

The wedge wire filter element delivers consistent filtration performance because the V-shaped slot geometry produces openings that are narrow on the outside and wider on the inside. Particles that enter the slot make contact at only two points with the wire edges, which prevents them from becoming wedged. This design characteristic is the main reason wedge wire elements resist blinding far better than woven wire mesh or perforated plates. When backwashing, the wider internal opening allows trapped solids to be flushed away easily. The result is a filter element that maintains its initial flow capacity over many cleaning cycles. Slot openings can be manufactured from 0.025 mm up to 3.0 mm, with common industrial filtration applications using 0.1 to 1.0 mm slots.

Material Selection for Corrosive Environments

 

The operating environment determines the appropriate material selection for the filter element. Stainless steel 304 and 316L are standard choices for most water and mild chemical applications. For more aggressive media, such as chloride-rich brine, acidic solutions, or high-temperature hydrocarbons, we offer higher-grade materials including 2205 duplex stainless steel, 904L, Hastelloy C276, and titanium. The material choice directly affects the service life of the filter element, particularly in applications where corrosion and erosion are factors.

Every element undergoes a 100% final inspection before packing. For international shipping, we use fumigation-free plywood boxes. Each element is sprayed with anti-rust oil and wrapped with foam padding. We accept third-party inspections for large orders and can provide inspection reports upon request.
